DYER Fellows Carson Belaire ’27 and Daniel Andrade ’25 have a vision to aid communities of the Amazon, and they want to harness the power of the sun to carry out these aspirations. So, they created their non-profit, Amazolar!
“Amazolar originated from a blend of ideas and passions that both Danny and I brought together,” said Carson. “We knew we wanted to create something impactful but weren’t yet sure how. Building on Danny’s interest in renewable energy, specifically solar, and my passion for education and community development, we combined both elements to create the pillars of what Amazolar is today.”
Practically speaking, their organization implements a four-step plan. Firstly, they engage with the particular community and establish local partners. That is, it’s important for Carson and Daniel to understand the needs of the community and work alongside them with nearby collaborators.
Then, having established a local bridge, renewable energy (solar or otherwise) is installed in the community. This leads to increased internet access and online education for community members.
Finally, Amazolar and their local partners check in with the communities to help them continue their path towards self-sufficiency.
As you can see, Amazolar’s model centers on relationships; connecting the dots through local partners to help communities harness renewable energy, experience reliable and effective internet, achieve quality education, and cultivate self-sufficiency.
Said Carson, “By fostering partnerships with communities, we hope to work together towards developing sustainable and equitable education for a brighter future.”
