Rachel “Win” Winchester, an independent product designer, public speaker, and creative entrepreneur, took attendees on a fascinating tour of her innovative project: The Net Art Museum. This online compendium features exhibitions that document various pieces of internet art throughout the decades.

Win chose this particular event for the museum’s public debut, even hosting a symbolic “breaking ground” ceremony using chocolate pudding as the foundation and spoons as the shovels!

The museum and the presentation itself challenged common preconceptions of what internet art is. Win clearly distinguished between digital art (general computer-created images), physical art that’s simply displayed online, and Net Art—art that is created with the internet as its essential medium. In addition to showcasing the work of historical net art pioneers, Win also shared one of her own works.

Put on in partnership with the Department of Neuroscience, Win’s presentation demonstrated how a deep, passionate interest can be channeled into an innovative, entrepreneurial approach to increase public awareness and strengthen the preservation of a unique artistic field.
