Lafayette Senior and DYER Fellow Jahi Heath ’25 created Black Rose Haven to dismantle stereotypes and create a sanctuary for people of color to freely express themselves. Its current project is a clothing line designed for Black artists to showcase their work and strengthen their confidence.
“I started Black Rose Haven to give back to my community by merging my passions for fashion, culture, and advocacy,” said Jahi. “The name itself reflects this mission—Black Rose symbolizes beauty and sophistication often misunderstood, while Haven represents a safe space for growth, self-expression, and empowerment.”
By promoting Black excellence, the brand strives to foster spaces for authentic cultural expression and advocates for equitable and supportive communities that uplift and nurture future generations. While Black Rose Haven currently features Jahi’s art, the vision is to offer many POC artists an opportunity to make their mark.
Furthermore, in the future, a portion of profits will be donated to artistic endeavors in the Black community, either through contributing to organizations involved in youth artistic expression or individual support to unique Black artists. One of Black Rose Haven’s ultimate goals is to create a physical space – a “haven” – for Black artists to create.
Black Rose Haven clothing is available at the Lafayette College Store, but Jahi also plans to sell his products online as well as via additional physical outlets and events.
