A space for creativity, experimentation, and bringing ideas to life.

The Dyer Makerspace is Lafayette’s hub for hands-on exploration; a collaborative environment where students from all disciplines can design, prototype, and create. Whether you’re building an engineering model, crafting an art installation, or developing an entrepreneurial product, the Makerspace provides the tools, training, and community to help your ideas take shape.

Located within the Dyer Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Makerspace supports learning through making. It’s a place where artists, scientists, and humanists can work side by side, learning practical skills that enhance creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Trained student mentors are available to guide projects and ensure that everyone, from first-time makers to experienced builders, can safely and confidently bring their ideas to life.

Who can use the Dyer Makerspace?

All Lafayette students, regardless of major or experience level, are welcome to use the Makerspace. It’s designed to support interdisciplinary exploration, whether you’re prototyping a product, building a research model, or experimenting creatively.

What hours is the makerspace open?

For students who have received safety training and have signed our makerspace agreement, the makerspace is open 24/7 during the academic semester.

Do I need training before using the equipment?

Yes. All users must complete a short safety and orientation session before operating any tools or machines. These sessions ensure that everyone can work confidently and safely. Once trained, students have access during open hours and can request additional guidance from student mentors. You can request training and makerspace access using this form.

What kinds of tools and resources are available?

The Makerspace offers an eclectic variety of materials and tools to bring ideas to life, including 3D printers, a laser engraver, a sewing machine, a craft vinyl cutter, craft paint, hand tools, and more! It’s a space for experimentation, creativity, and making. No matter what you want to build.
